Losing weight and getting fit can be really tough if you don’t have a strong foundation to help you reach your goals successfully.

Many people know something about what they need to do, but they only have part of the knowledge, which is a bit like wanting to get to a particular destination, without owning a map or even knowing how to drive!

Once you have the whole picture, and understand exactly what makes up a strong foundation for success, losing weight and getting fit can be really simple.

Three things go into a strong foundation, and they are exercise, diet and mindset.

Why is exercise important? Because we all have a physical body, and that body needs us to exercise. Exercise doesn’t have to be overly-strenuous or difficult – focus on light resistance training with really light weights, and even add in some work with an elastic resistance band. For consistent results, remember to do 4 to 6 sets of each exercise, and 10 to 12 repetitions per set. One thing that is really important when exercising, is to make sure you are completely present in the moment, and really feeling your body.

The second part of losing weight and getting fit is your diet – eating the right thing for your body type. Everything we eat contains the three main components of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. One of the biggest traps in the health and wellness industry today is that when someone finds a diet that works for them, they often jump on the stage and yell to everyone else to also try this new amazing diet! But just because it works for them, it doesn’t mean it will work for everyone else. We all have different bodies, so it’s important to pay close attention to how certain foods make our body feel. Next time you eat something, notice how your body feels 30 minutes later. Do you have more energy? Or are you feeling sluggish? Take this feedback from your body, and adjust what you eat next time.

Mindset is the most important of the three parts that make up a strong foundation because, without the mindset to motivate yourself, you won’t be able to continue with your exercise routine and diet. This is why the majority of diets and exercise routines don’t create lasting results.

One of my simplest and easiest tips to create the right mindset for success is to write down your WHY. Why is it important for you to lose weight and get fit? Make sure you go deeper than surface reasons, like that you want to look good or have great abs. These are good reasons, but they usually don’t help us to keep up with our new lifestyle and routine over the long term. Some of my most successful clients are the ones who share with me that they exercise every day because it gives them more energy, and helps them to feel so much better throughout the day. This is a deeper reason for them than just great abs, so it keeps them motivated day after day. When you truly discover your ‘why’, it will motivate you to not only achieve your goals, but to also maintain your results until eventually health and fitness becomes a sustainable lifestyle for you.

With the help of these three elements, you’ll be able to create a strong foundation of fitness and health for yourself. Remember as you face each day that you need all three for a strong foundation, and if you apply them to your life, you will get the results you deserve.
